Is Pragmata Just a Simple Action Game? Its Tactical Layers Explained

No: Pragmata combines third-person shooting with real-time hacking, resource choices and traversal puzzles. Its complexity comes from coordinating those systems, rather than from the number of attacks on a move list. This explanation draws on Capcom’s published mechanics and an attributed PlayStation Blog preview.
The hacking grid changes what an opening means
In a conventional shooter, seeing a target may be enough to begin an effective attack. In Pragmata, reinforced bot armor changes that calculation. Diana’s hacking panel asks you to move a cursor along a continuous route to the green goal. Successful hacking exposes weaknesses for Hugh to target.
Capcom explains that blue nodes strengthen the result and extend the hack, while yellow Hacking Nodes add special effects. A direct route is easier to finish; a longer route may create a more productive damage window. Neither is automatically the best option in every fight.

Attention is part of the challenge
Enemies continue attacking during hacking. That makes positioning important before you begin tracing a route. The practical question is whether you have enough space to finish safely, or should first dodge, change targets, or use a weapon to create an opportunity.
PlayStation Blog’s preview described red barriers that prevent hacking and must first be destroyed. Its reporter also found that hacking progress survived evasive movement during the demonstrated boss encounter. That is more useful guidance than treating every interrupted attempt as an automatic failure.
Loadouts influence the puzzle you are solving
Hugh’s default gun regenerates ammunition over time. The other weapon types are limited resources and break when emptied. That makes a powerful weapon most attractive when its damage can exploit a successful hack, rather than when an armored enemy first appears.
The preview distinguished Primary, Attack, Tactical and Defense Units. It described using a Tactical Unit to restrain an enemy before hacking, then using an Attack Unit at close range. This is an example of system interaction, not a claim that one fixed combination clears every encounter.
Exploration also uses both characters
Hugh’s suit thrusters support hovering and dashing, with a gauge that limits their use. Diana can access station systems and solve environmental hacks that differ from combat panels. Discovering Escape Hatches gives access back to the Shelter.
The Shelter’s upgrade facilities turn exploration materials into improvements. Cabin Coins can be exchanged through Cabin’s Stamp Board, including bingo bonuses. These are concrete reasons to inspect side routes without assuming every collectible has the same function.

Complexity is not the same as universal appeal
The combination should interest players who like planning while reacting. It may be less appealing if you find simultaneous visual tasks tiring or prefer an uninterrupted aiming loop. Watch an extended combat sequence and pay attention to the grid’s readability, not just spectacular finishing shots.
The strongest answer to the title is therefore mechanical: Pragmata asks you to manage exposure, hacking routes and limited weapons together. Whether that feels exciting or distracting is a personal judgment that the feature list alone cannot settle.
