MIO: Memories in Orbit Is Beautiful, but Is It Too Difficult? | Platforming, Boss Fights, Assist Options

MIO: Memories in Orbit pairs a delicate visual style with movement and combat built around precision. There is no contradiction in that pairing: a gentle-looking world is not a promise of easy platforming. The useful buying question is which demands the game places on you, and which of its assistance options address the parts you find difficult.

Movement is part of the challenge
Developed by Douze Dixièmes and published by Focus Entertainment, MIO was released on January 20, 2026. Its setting is the Vessel, a vast spacecraft explored by the small robot MIO. The official game page highlights abilities such as Hook and Glide, along with timing, rhythm, and precision.
Those abilities are reasons to expect more than a scenic walk between fights. Acquiring a movement option changes the routes available, but making use of it can still require execution. Someone comfortable with boss retries may struggle more with traversing a demanding section; another player may have the opposite experience. A single label such as ‘hard’ hides that distinction.
Modifiers and assists solve different problems
Modifiers belong to the game’s customization system. Assistance options change particular pressures more directly. They should not be collapsed into one generic easy mode, because the documented options target different situations.
- Eroded Bosses: reduces a boss’s health through repeated unsuccessful attempts, easing the endurance requirement over retries.
- Pacifist: makes ordinary enemies less aggressive by preventing them from initiating attacks. It is not a promise that bosses or traversal obstacles disappear.
- Ground Healing: provides an extra layer of protection after you remain grounded. TheGamer notes that it stops activating when health is too low, so treat it as a buffer rather than a way to restore all lost health.
The assists are covered in TheGamer’s beginner guide. Their practical value depends on the obstacle. Reducing a boss’s health can shorten a fight without solving a difficult sequence of jumps elsewhere.

Choose help according to the friction
Before changing an option, identify what is stopping progress. Is the problem surviving long enough to practice a boss, dealing with routine enemies during exploration, or executing movement? That diagnosis helps set realistic expectations about what an assist can accomplish.
There is no reason to assume assistance automatically removes satisfaction. A shorter fight can create space to learn patterns, and fewer incidental attacks can make exploration more comfortable. Equally, someone who enjoys a long mastery process may prefer to leave those settings alone. These are different priorities, not different levels of legitimacy.
Is it too difficult?
MIO is a precision-oriented adventure with targeted assistance, so the answer depends on what you find difficult. If boss endurance is the obstacle, Eroded Bosses is directly relevant. If movement execution is the concern, inspect traversal footage closely: combat-focused assists do not remove the need to navigate the Vessel. This assessment is based on published material rather than hands-on testing.
